About Coach Margie
In addition to coaching with the Iron Strokes Health & Performance project, I also am a rowing coach for youth and masters aged rowers. I live in the Atlanta area where I actively coach year round. Making a career out of sharing my passion for rowing with others has brought me an immense amount of joy.
I’ve participated and competed in a wide variety of sports such as softball, track, karate, strongman, powerlifting, and many more. I love sports. I love the feeling of freedom and tranquility I experience when I train, practice, and compete. Not only what I experience as an individual, but getting to participate in these activities with people I care for and love makes it that much better.
At the moment, I am actively training for and competing in bodybuilding – specifically the NGA figure division, rowing, and triathlons. In 2017, I competed in a bodybuilding show where I took 2nd place in the Novice Figure class, and 3rd place in the Overall Figure class. Just 4 weeks after that, I traveled to Colorado where I cycled over 70 miles through the mountains, experiencing a 7,000ft+ elevation gain. 3 months later, I went on to complete the North Carolina IRONMAN 70.3.
I think it’s extremely important to continually seek improvement in myself. To do that in 2018, I plan to continue to train and compete in these areas of sports and fitness. I believe it not only improves my athleticism, but also improves other areas of my life as well. Mental, emotional, and physical strength and health are a priority to me. I feel they lead to a healthy and well balance life.
I also enjoy activities such as hiking, riding my motorcycle, anything to do with lakes or oceans, and traveling. I have an adorable mixed dog named Roscoe who is the most adorable dog in the world.
The Iron Strokes Mission
Throughout my life, I have enjoyed sports and living an active lifestyle. It wasn’t until I competed in bodybuilding combined with high volume endurance where I truly found my calling. A feeling of passion and excitement was lit inside me during the my new journey starting in late 2016. Check out my blog post, The Start of a New Era, to read more about my own athletic journey. So, anyways, onto how I decided to start the Iron Strokes Health & Performance project!
After receiving a ton of positive feedback and encouragement during my journey of competing in bodybuilding and triathlons, I knew I had to find a way to share what I discovered with others. One of my biggest pet peeves is hearing individuals say they do not have the time to improve their health and fitness. It’s so cliche to say, but we only are given one body during our lives. An improved level of health and fitness makes all areas of life better. It is SO much more than going to the spending hours on the elliptical, only eating chicken and broccoli, or whatever else you read online.
My goal with starting Iron Strokes Health & Performance is to help others find their passion and improve their lives through my various coaching services. I believe a healthy and well balanced life includes physical, mental, and emotional health. I have actively worked towards this balance within my own life over the last 4 years. It’s now time for me to share my passion with you, and help you find what excites you and lights up your world!
Contrary to what some may believe, being active and healthy, while enjoying the way you do it are not mutually exclusive. One does not have to dread the way they work towards and active and healthy lifestyle. This means a gym membership, or a strict chicken and broccoli diet are not necessary! With the creation of this project, I hope to influence and inspire others to discover what area of fitness makes them happy. This can be anything the individual wants it to be: hiking with the family, racing in 5k runs with buddies, competing in CrossFit competition with co-workers. There’s an activity for everyone!
If you are interested in working with me to improve your strength and/or endurance, physique/body composition, fitness, health, or nutrition, let’s talk soon! If I’m not able to personally help you with your goals, I will point you to a coach I know that can!
